One Strike You’re Out Parenting

This video features counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Susan Gierhart and Jack Smith and they are discussing “One Strike You’re Out Parenting”.

When you were a kid growing up did you ever lie to your parents? I don’t condone it but yes I did. We all have. What happened? Were you disciplined?

Some parents raise their kids like they were raised. That isn’t always good though. If when you did lie were you spanked? Beaten? I hope you weren’t abused. But many times we go a little too far.

Consider what God does for us. He has grace for us. Forgiveness. I would suggest that you be forgiving with your kids. Grace when they lie to you just means they don’t want to get into trouble with you. Do you think they might deserve a second chance?

Now lying over and over and being totally deceptive might require discipline. No physical abuse but a definite penalty. You might want to consider being a little subtle with them. Let them tell you what they are going to tell you. Figure out if it is a lie and first offense might call for forgiveness.

Continued lying will escalate the discipline. But if the penalty for lying is so great that it’s easier for them to lie then tell the truth you may have some damage that needs to be fixed. Counseling could be a great help with these matters.

If this is a problem you are having then contact Dr Kevon Owen for guidance. Your mental health is important. Kevon can be reached by calling 405-740-1249 or 405-655-5180. More information is also available at https://www.kevonowen.com.
